在禮卒，趙延壽籍其部曲，盡付於其子贊，思綰即其首領也。 After Zaili's death Zhao Yanshou took over his troops and gave them to his son Zan, with Siwan as their leader.

高祖定河、洛，贊自河中移京兆尹。 After Gaozu secured the heartland, Zan moved from Hezhong to become metropolitan governor of Jingzhao.

贊以久事契丹，常慮國家終不能容，乃與鳳翔侯益謀，引蜀兵為援，又令判官李恕入朝請覲，趙贊不待報赴闕，留思綰等數百人在京兆。 Having long served the Khitan, Zan feared the court would never trust him. He plotted with Hou Yi of Fengxiang to bring in Shu troops and sent his aide Li Shu to request an audience. Zan left for court without waiting for permission, leaving Siwan and several hundred men in Jingzhao.

思綰既發，行至途中，謂其黨常彥卿曰：「小太尉已入他手，吾輩至，則並死矣。」 On the road Siwan told his follower Chang Yanqing, "The Little Grand Guardian is already in their hands. When we reach the capital we will all die together."

小太尉蓋謂趙贊也。 The Little Grand Guardian meant Zhao Zan.

是時，漢方新造，鳳翔侯益、永興趙贊皆嘗受命契丹，高祖立，益等內顧自疑，乃陰召蜀人為助，高祖患之。 The Han dynasty had only just been established. Hou Yi at Fengxiang and Zhao Zan at Yongxing had both once accepted commissions from the Khitan. When Gaozu came to the throne, Yi and his fellows grew anxious as they looked homeward, and secretly called on Shu for help. Gaozu was alarmed.

景崇行至陜，趙贊已東入朝，而蜀兵方寇南山，景崇擊破蜀兵，追至大散關而還。 Jingchong reached Shaan prefecture. Zhao Zan had already gone east to present himself at court, while Shu forces were harrying the Southern Mountains. Jingchong routed the Shu troops, pursued them to Dashan Pass, and then withdrew.

為河中節度使趙贊牙將。 He served as a personal guard officer to Zhao Zan, military governor of Hezhong.

漢高祖即位，徙贊鎮永興，贊入朝京師，留思綰兵數百人於永興。 When Han Gaozu came to the throne, Zan was transferred to Yongxing. Zan went to the capital and left several hundred of Siwan’s troops behind at Yongxing.

景崇至永興，贊雖入朝，而其所召蜀兵已據子午谷，景崇用思綰兵擊走之。 Jingchong reached Yongxing after Zan had gone to court, but the Shu troops Zan had called up already held Ziwu Valley. Jingchong used Siwan’s force to attack and drive them away.

思綰謂其下常彥卿曰：「趙公已入人手，吾屬至，並死矣，奈何？」 Siwan told his officer Chang Yanqing: "Lord Zhao is already a prisoner. When we reach the capital we shall all die together. What can we do?"
