詩名於天下，尤長於詠史，然多所譏諷，以故不中第，大為唐宰相鄭畋、李蔚所知。 His verse was known everywhere; he excelled at historical poems but often mocked his betters, failed the examinations for it, and was nevertheless prized by chancellors Zheng Tian and Li Wei.

畋女幼有文性，嘗覽隱詩卷，諷誦不已，畋疑其女有慕才之意。 Tian's daughter was literary; reading Yin's poems she could not stop reciting them, and Tian thought she admired the poet.

宰相鄭畋建言：「請以陳許兵三千隸宋威。」 Chief Minister Zheng Tian proposed: "Let three thousand Chen-Xu troops be placed under Song Wei."

畋謂威有疑忿，必殺自勉，奏言：「今以兵悉畀威，是自勉以功受辱。 Tian said Wei was jealous and would surely kill Zimian; he memorialized: "To hand all these troops to Wei would humiliate Zimian despite his achievements.

鄭畋謂審中節貫神明，請擢為右羽林將軍，詔可。 Zheng Tian declared Shenzhong's integrity almost supernatural and recommended him as general of the Right Yulin Guard; the court approved.

攜姿陋而語不正，與鄭畋俱李翺甥，同位宰相，然所處議多駁。 Xie was ugly and did not speak properly; he and Zheng Tian were both Li Ao's nephews and served together as chief ministers, yet their policy views often clashed.

又徇駢與南詔和親，與畋爭，相恨詈，繇是罷為太子賓客，分司東都。 He also indulged Pian in peace with Nanzhao; he quarreled with Tian in mutual hatred, and was dismissed to Palace Companion at the Eastern Capital.

及鐸失守，以駢代之，即按關東諸將為鐸、畋所任者，悉易置。 When Duo lost his post, Pian replaced him; he then reviewed eastern-pass generals appointed by Duo and Tian and replaced them all.
