令坤少隸周祖帳下，廣順初，歷鐵騎散員都虞候，控鶴右第一軍都校、領和州刺史。 From youth Lingkun served in the Zhou founder's personal retinue. Early in Guangshun he became chief adjutant of the Iron Cavalry irregulars and squad chief of the first company of the Right Crane Control Guard, while also holding Hezhou prefecture.
