先是有棄屍三牌樓竹園旁，汝奎令參將胡金傳偵獲僧紹宗等仇殺謝姓男子，又稱薛姓，名亦屢易，汝奎請覆訊。 Earlier a body had been found dumped near the bamboo grove at Three Pailou. Rukui had Vice-Commander Hu Jinzhuan trace the case to the monk Shaozong and others, accused of murdering a man surnamed Xie in a feud; the victim was also said to be surnamed Xue, and even his name shifted with each retelling, so Rukui asked for a rehearing.

逾三年，得真盜週五、沈鮑洪等殺硃彪事，時地悉合。 More than three years on, the real killers Zhou Wu, Shen Baohong, and others were caught for murdering Zhu Biao—the timing and location matched perfectly.
