建元初，爲長沙王後軍主簿，尚書殿中郎，出補竟陵王征北記室參軍，府遷司徒，仍爲錄事參軍。 At the start of Jianyuan he was Rear Army Master of Records for Prince Changsha and Attendant in the Palace Hall; he was then assigned as Recorder on Prince Jingling's Northern Expedition staff, and when the princely establishment became the Ministry of Works he remained Recorder Adjutant.

遷太子中舍人，文惠太子與竟陵王子良素好士，竝蒙賞接。 He was made Attendant of the Heir Apparent; both the Literary Heir Apparent and Prince Jingling of Ziliang had long loved men of learning, and both honored and befriended him.
