The Book of Later Han is a biographical history that chronicles the Eastern Han dynasty. The book consists of ten imperial annals, eighty biographies, and eight monographs (continued by Sima Biao) . Fan Ye, writing during the Liu Song dynasty of the Southern Dynasties, authored the imperial annals and biographies. During Emperor Zhenzong's reign in the Northern Song, the thirty volumes of eight monographs from Sima Biao's Xu Han Shu of the Jin dynasty were combined with Fan Ye's work, creating the Book of Later Han we know today.
