高祖入洛，移領中山，俄聞與鎮州安重榮為婚家，乃移鎮上黨，又改平陽，咸以憸人執事，政事隳紊。 When Emperor Gaozu entered Luoyang, Huang Fuyu was transferred to Zhongshan; soon word came that he had formed a marriage alliance with An Chongrong of Zhen prefecture, so he was shifted to Shangdang and then to Pingyang. In each place scheming men ran affairs and government collapsed into disorder.

天福七年冬，杜重威討鎮州，與安重榮大戰於宗城，以功遷洺州團練使、檢校太保，未幾，入為奉國左廂都指揮使。 In the winter of the seventh year of Tianfu, Du Chongwei campaigned against Zhen prefecture and fought a great battle with An Chongrong at Zongcheng. For merit he was transferred to militia training commissioner of Ming prefecture and honorary Grand Guardian; before long he entered court as commander of the left wing of the Fengguo Army.

重榮奔據常山，重威尋拔其城，斬重榮首傳於闕下，授成德軍節度使。 Chongrong fled to Changshan, which Chongwei soon captured. He beheaded Chongrong and sent the head to court, and in reward was made military governor of Chengde.

所得重榮家財及常山公帑，悉歸於己，晉高祖知而不問。 He appropriated all of Chongrong's family wealth and the public treasury of Changshan for himself. Emperor Gaozu knew but said nothing.

安重榮反，重威逆戰於宗城，重榮為偃月陣，重威擊之不動。 When An Chongrong rebelled, Zhongwei met him in battle at Zongcheng. Chongrong formed a crescent array, and Zhongwei's attacks failed to break it.

乃分兵為三，重威先以左右隊擊其兩翼，戰酣，重胤以精兵擊其中軍，重榮將趙彥之來奔，重榮遂大敗，走還鎮州，閉壁不敢出。 They divided their force into three. Zhongwei first sent the left and right wings against Chongrong's flanks. When the fighting was at its height, Chongyin struck the center with elite troops. Chongrong's general Zhao Yanzhi defected, and Chongrong was routed. He fled back to Zhenzhou, shut the gates, and did not dare come out.

破鎮州，悉取府庫之積及重榮之貲，皆沒之家，高祖知而不問。 After capturing Zhenzhou, he seized all the wealth in the treasury and Chongrong's private fortune and kept it for his own household. Gaozu knew of this but did not call him to account.
