林爽文為亂，總督常青檄普吉保會剿，五十二年，率水師渡台灣，迭破賊鹿仔港、八卦山，上嘉其奮勉。 When Lin Shuangwen rebelled, Governor-General Chang Qing summoned Pu Jibao to the joint campaign; in Qianlong 52 he crossed to Taiwan at the head of the fleet, took Lugang and Baguashan in turn, and won the emperor's praise for his zeal.

朝雄策東港與鳳山犄角，爽文所必爭，白總督常青，請兵屯東港，斷其糧道。 Chaoxiong argued that Donggang and Fengshan formed a pincer Shuangwen was bound to fight for, told Governor-General Chang Qing so, and asked for troops at Donggang to sever the rebels' grain route.

常青不能用，遣朝雄還台灣，佐海壇鎮總兵郝壯猷討爽文。 Chang Qing would not heed him and sent Chaoxiong back to Taiwan to serve under Haizhen garrison commander Hao Zhuangyou against Shuangwen.

以兵寡不能克，報常青請益兵。 Too few to finish the fight, he reported to Chang Qing for reinforcements.

常青令駐港口護餉道。 Chang Qing told him to hold the harbor and guard the grain route.
