捻酋陳大喜犯南陽，之萬親赴汝州督師。 Nian chieftain Chen Daxi attacked Nanyang, and Zhiwan personally went to Ruzhou to direct operations.

大喜竄阜陽，勾結皖捻，一由岳城趨楊莊偪雷堰，一入張岡，總兵張曜馳擊破之。 Daxi fled to Fuyang and joined forces with Anhui Nian rebels. One column advanced from Yuecheng toward Yangzhuang threatening Leiyan, while another entered Zhanggang. Brigade General Zhang Yao rushed to attack and defeated them.
