侍御史程鉅夫，奉詔求賢江南，起澄至京師。 Supervising Censor Cheng Jufu, bearing an edict to seek worthy men south of the Yangtze, summoned Wu Cheng to the capital.

鉅夫請置澄所著書於國子監，以資學者，朝廷命有司即其家錄上。 Cheng Jufu asked that Wu Cheng's writings be placed in the Directorate of Education for the use of scholars. The court ordered the relevant office to copy them from his home and present them.

初，澄所居草屋數間，程鉅夫題曰草廬，故學者稱之為草廬先生。 Earlier Wu Cheng lived in a few thatched rooms. Cheng Jufu inscribed the name Thatched Hut over the door, and scholars therefore called him Master Thatched Hut.

程鉅夫嘗貽書曰：「臨川士友及門者，踵相接也，何相望足下耿耿如玉人，而不可得見乎！」 Cheng Jufu once wrote to him: "Scholar friends in Linchuan and students at my gate come in endless succession—why is it that one so pure as jade as yourself remains beyond my sight!"

其學弘深該博，廣平程鉅夫，清河元明善，柳城姚燧，東平王構，同郡吳澄、揭傒斯，皆推服之。 His learning was broad and profound; Cheng Jufu of Guangping, Yuan Mingshan of Qinghe, Yao Sui of Liucheng, Wang Gou of Dongping, and his fellow townsman Wu Cheng and Jie Xisi all held him in esteem.
