初，詔留宰相張琳、李處溫與秦晉國王淳守燕。 Earlier an edict had left chancellors Zhang Lin and Li Chuwen with King of Qin-Jin Chun to guard Yan.

處溫聞上入夾山，數日命令不通，即與弟處能、子奭，外假怨軍，內結都統蕭幹，謀立淳。 Chuwen heard that Tianzuo had entered Jia Mountain and that no orders had come through for several days. Together with his younger brother Chuneng and his son Shi, he outwardly relied on the Resentment Army and secretly allied with Commander-in-Chief Xiao Gan to place Chun on the throne.

遂與諸大臣耶律大石、左企弓、虞仲文、曹勇義、康公弼集蕃漢百官、諸軍及父老數萬人詣淳府。 Thereupon with the great ministers Yelü Dashi, Zuo Qigong, Yu Zhongwen, Cao Yongyi, and Kang Gongbi they gathered Khitan and Han hundred officials, all armies, and elders numbering tens of thousands and went to Chun's residence.

處溫等請淳受禮，淳方出，李奭持赭袍被之，令百官拜舞山呼。 Chuwen and the others urged Chun to accept the imperial rites. As he came out, Li Shi draped the ochre robe over him and ordered the assembled officials to bow, dance, and acclaim their new emperor.

淳驚駭，再三辭，不獲已而從之。 Chun was startled and repeatedly declined but could not refuse and followed.

於是肆赦，自稱天錫皇帝，改元建福，降封天祚為湘陰王。 Thereupon a general amnesty was proclaimed; he styled himself Emperor Heaven-Bestowed, changed the era to Jianfu, and demoted Tianzuo to Prince of Xiangyin.
