When the crown prince's position was fixed, the authorities memorialized: "The crown prince stands second to the throne, and all the realm performs official rites. Having paid full ritual to the heir, one cannot withhold respect from his mother. Princesses who may exchange correspondence, and the three ladies of the six palaces who share the honored consort's rank, should all observe toward her the same rites owed the crown prince. In the Yuanjia era of Song, retainers of Shixing and Wuling paid official respect to their princes' mothers, Consorts Pan and Lu. Though the honored consort is not the lesser lord to palace officials, the principle matches the Taiyu reign of Song, when officials were ordered to pay official respect to the emperor's mother. Palace staff should show respect as officials do, presenting memorials at the Divine Beast Gate and offering year-end congratulations in the same way. Moreover, the crown prince's consort is paired by grand precedent; for a daughter-in-law to outrank her mother-in-law would violate order. The honored consort's regulations should match the crown prince's in full."
