二月乙卯，命昭義軍節度使李繼勳為河東行營前軍都部署，侍衛步軍指揮使党進副之，宣徽南院使曹彬為都監，棣州防禦使何繼筠為石嶺關部署，建雄軍節度使趙贊為汾州路部署，以伐北漢。 On yimao of the second month he named Li Jixun of Zhaoyi overall commander of the Hedong field army's vanguard, with Palace Guards infantry commander Dang Jin as his deputy, Cao Bin of the Southern Palace Secretariat as chief supervisor, He Jiyun of Dizhou to hold Shiling Pass, and Zhao Zan of Jianxiong to command the Fenzhou route—all to wage war on Northern Han.

遂砦城四面，繼勳軍於南，贊軍於西，彬軍於北，進軍於東，乃北引汾水灌城。 He ringed the city with camps—Jixun to the south, Zan to the west, Bin to the north, Jin to the east—then turned the Fen north to inundate the walls.
