段常薦無為於鈞，鈞以諫議大夫召之。 Duan Chang recommended Wuwei to Jun, and Jun summoned him as remonstrance grandee.

俄誅段常，遂以無為為左仆射、平章事兼樞密使，機務一以委之。 Soon Duan Chang was executed, and Wuwei was made left vice director of the Department of State Affairs, grand councillor, and concurrent military affairs commissioner; all critical business was entrusted to him alone.
