冲帝永熹元年夏，旱。 The child-emperor Chong's sole summer reign year opened with drought.

時，冲帝幼崩，太尉李固勸太后兄梁冀立嗣帝，擇年長有德者，天下賴之，則功名不朽。 When the boy emperor died, Grand Commandant Li Gu urged the empress dowager's brother Liang Ji to establish an heir-emperor, choosing one advanced in years and possessed of virtue, so that if all under Heaven relied on him their merit and fame would not perish.
