周太祖之甥，福慶長公主之子也，生於太原。 Nephew of the Zhou founder and son of the Princess of Fuqing, he was born in Taiyuan.

漢初，從周祖征河中。 At the founding of the Later Han he followed the Zhou founder against Hezhong.

重進年長於世宗，及周祖寢疾，召重進受顧命，令拜世宗，以定君臣之分。 Chongjin was older than Shizong. On his deathbed the Zhou founder summoned him, entrusted him with the succession, and made him bow to Shizong to fix their roles as sovereign and subject.
