荊州刺史衡陽王義季啟太祖曰：「故輔國將軍劉道產患背癰，疾遂不救。 Jing Inspector Prince of Hengyang Liu Yiji reported to the Emperor: "The late General Who Supports the State Liu Daochan developed a carbuncle on his back and could not be saved.

伏惟聖懷，愍惜兼至。」 I trust Your Majesty's heart feels the fullest pity and regret."

元嘉十八年，為氐寇所攻，道錫保城退敵，太祖嘉之。 In the eighteenth year of Yuanjia (441) Di raiders attacked him; Daoxi held the city and drove them off, winning the Emperor's praise.
