世祖與諶相遇於宋明之世，欲委任，爲輔國將軍、晉安王南中郎長史、淮南太守，行府、州事。 Emperor Wu of Qi had known Chen in Emperor Ming of Song's reign and meant to entrust him with office. Chen became General Who Assists the State, chief clerk to the Prince of Jin'an as General of the Household for the South, and grand administrator of Huainan, with charge of both headquarters and provincial affairs.

西陽王子明在南兖州，長史沈憲去職，上復徙諶爲征虜長史，行南兖府、州事，將軍如故。 When Ziming, Prince of Xiyang, was Inspector of Southern Yanzhou and his chief clerk Shen Xian left office, the emperor transferred Chen there as chief clerk to the General Who Pacifies the Caitiffs, with charge of headquarters and provincial affairs; his general's title remained unchanged.
