玄宗在蜀聞之，拜監察御史，會母喪，得風痺疾，客洪州，南北梗否，逾年詔命不至。 Emperor Xuanzong, then in Shu, heard of this and appointed him investigating censor; but his mother died, he contracted paralysis from wind-damp, and lodged in Hongzhou while north and south were cut off; more than a year passed without an imperial order reaching him.
