嘗陪醼承香閣，賓退之後，高宗留憲與衛尉樊俊徙席山亭，談宴終日。 Once, after a banquet in the Fragrant-Accepting Pavilion, the other guests withdrew. Emperor Gaozong asked Xian and Commandant of the Guards Fan Jun to remain, moved with them to the mountain pavilion, and talked and feasted with them all day.

高宗目憲而謂俊曰「袁家故為有人」，其見重如此。 The emperor looked at Xian and told Fan Jun, "The Yuan family has always had real men in it"—such was the esteem in which he was held.
