高祖之臨雍州，問京兆人杜惲求州綱，惲舉慶遠。 When Gaozu took Yongzhou, he asked Du Yun of Jingzhao for the province's leading men; Yun recommended Qingyuan.

高祖曰：「文和吾已知之，所問未知者耳。」 Gaozu said, "I already know Wenhe; I was asking about what I did not yet know."

高祖行營壘，見慶遠頓舍嚴整，每歎曰：「人人若是，吾又何憂。」 When Gaozu inspected the camps and saw Qingyuan's quarters arranged in strict order, he often sighed, "If everyone were like this, what would I have to worry about?"

城內嘗夜失火，禁中驚懼，高祖時居宮中，悉斂諸鑰，問「柳侍中何在」。 Once a fire broke out in the city at night and those inside the palace were alarmed. Gaozu was then living in the palace; he gathered all the keys and asked, "Where is Attendant Liu?"

慶遠至，悉付之。 When Qingyuan arrived, Gaozu handed them all over to him.

高祖受禪，遷散騎常侍、右衛將軍，加征虜將軍，封重安侯，食邑千戶。 When Gaozu took the throne, Qingyuan was made Regular Attendant and Right Guard General, additionally General Who Subdues Captives, and enfeoffed as Marquis of Chong'an with a fief of one thousand households.

高祖餞於新亭，謂曰：「卿衣錦還鄉，朕無西顧之憂矣。」 Gaozu saw him off at Xinting and said, "You return home in brocade; I need no longer look west with worry."

及喪還京師，高祖出臨哭。 When the coffin returned to the capital, Gaozu went out in person to mourn.
