三年，尚大坪匪撲省城，德光與布政使龔自閎等固守，賊尋退，加提督銜，署古州鎮總兵。 In 1864, when Shangdaping rebels assaulted the provincial capital, Deguang and Administration Commissioner Gong Zihong held the city until the enemy withdrew; he received provincial commander rank and served as acting commander of the Guzhou garrison.
