與兄鍊並以文學進。 He and his elder brother Lian both advanced through literary learning.

時兄鍊已與源休相率受賊偽官。 At that time his elder brother Lian had already followed Yuan Xiu in accepting rebel nominal offices.

鎮僕人有逃歸投鍊，云鎮病足在鄠。 A servant of Zhen escaped and surrendered to Lian, saying Zhen's injured foot was in Hu.

鍊與源休聞之大喜，遂言於賊泚。 Lian and Yuan Xiu heard this with great joy and reported it to rebel Ci.
