初，宣帝居鄉里，先娶吳興錢氏，及即位，拜貴妃，甚有寵。 At first, while Chen Xu still lived in the countryside, he had first married a woman of the Qian clan of Wuxing; when he took the throne she was appointed honored consort and was greatly favored.

后傾心下之，每尚方供奉物，其上者皆推于貴妃，而己御其次焉。 The empress wholeheartedly deferred to her; whenever the imperial workshops sent tribute, the finest items went to the honored consort while she herself took what was second.
