四月五日，李存渥自洛陽至，口傳莊宗命，並無書詔，惟云天子授以隻箭，傳之為信。 On the fifth day of the fourth month Li Cunwo arrived from Luoyang, orally transmitting Zhuangzong's command without any written edict, saying only that the Son of Heaven had given him a single arrow and that passing it on was proof.

左右獻畫曰：「存渥所乘馬，已戢其飾，復召人謀事，必行陰禍，因欲據城。 Those at his side offered a plan: "The horse Cunwo rides has already had its trappings removed; he has again summoned men to plot—he will surely carry out a hidden harm and thereby seize the city.

寧我負人，宜早為之所，但戮呂、鄭二宦，且係存渥，徐觀其變，事萬全矣。」 Better that I wrong others than be wronged—act early. Only kill the two eunuchs Lü and Zheng, detain Cunwo for the time being, and watch developments slowly; then the affair will be entirely secure."
