李罕之圍張全義於河陽，全義乞兵於梁，太祖以存節故事河陽，知其間道，使以兵為前鋒。 Li Hanzhi besieged Zhang Quanyi at Heyang; Quanyi begged Liang for help; Taizu knew Cunjie had served there before and knew the back roads, and sent him ahead as vanguard.

是時歲饑，兵行乏食，存節以金帛就民易幹葚以食軍，擊走罕之。 Famine year—the army ran short of food; Cunjie traded gold and cloth to villagers for dried mulberries to feed his men, then routed Hanzhi.
