It had Changzhou Marsh, where King Bi of Wu kept his great granary. The county had many moose. The Bowu ji says, “They gather in herds of thousands, dig up and eat grass roots, and the places where they do so become mud, called moose furrows. The people follow these furrows to plant rice, and without plowing they harvest it, with yields one hundredfold.” On Fuhai Island there was also a grass called shi; its seed was eaten like barley, ripened from the seventh month, and was gathered by the people until winter ended. It was called natural grain, or Yu’s surplus grain.
