文秀初為郡主簿，功曹史，慶之貴後，文秀起家為東海王褘撫軍行參軍，又度義陽王昶東中郎府，東遷、錢唐令，西陽王子尚撫軍參軍，武康令，尚書庫部郎，本邑中正，建康令。 Wenxiu first served as chief clerk and merit-clerk of his commandery. After Qingzhi rose to power, Wenxiu began his career as acting aide on the pacification army staff of Prince Yi of Donghai, then transferred to the eastern center general headquarters of Prince Chang of Yiyang. He went on to serve as magistrate of Dongqian and Qiantang, pacification army aide under Prince Zishang of Xiyang, magistrate of Wukang, director of the storehouse section in the Ministry of Works, chief rectifier of his native district, and magistrate of Jiankang.
