淳化三年春，以老衰久病，令留守通判劉昌言奉表求致政，中使馳傳撫問，凡三上表乞骸骨。 In spring of the third year of Chunhua, aged and long ill, he had Liu Changyan, vice-prefect attached to the Western Capital administration, submit a memorial requesting retirement. Imperial emissaries raced by relay to inquire after him. In all he thrice begged to retire.
