紀僧真，丹陽建康人也。 Ji Sengzhen was a native of Jiankang in Danyang commandery.

少便書畫，爲宋竟陵王誕子景粹侍書。 As a youth he was skilled in writing and painting and served as calligrapher to Jing Cui, son of Prince Dan of Jingling of Song.

誕舉兵廣陵，城內皆死，敕沈慶之赦係宗，以爲東宮侍書。 When Dan raised troops at Guangling everyone in the city was put to death, but an edict ordered Shen Qingzhi to pardon Xizong, who was then appointed calligrapher to the Eastern Palace.

大明三年，竟陵王誕據廣陵反，慤表求赴討，乘驛詣都，面受節度，上停輿慰勉，慤聳躍數十，左右顧盻，上壯之。 In the third year of Daming, the Prince of Jingling, Dan, rebelled at Guangling. Que petitioned to lead the suppression, raced by post relay to the capital, and received his commission face to face. The emperor stopped his carriage to exhort him. Que sprang up and down dozens of times, looking about him; the emperor was stirred.

初，誕誑其眾云：「宗慤助我。」 At first Dan had deceived his men, saying, "Zong Que is on my side."

竟陵王誕據廣陵為逆，孝祖隸沈慶之攻誕，又有戰功，遷西陽王子尚撫軍、寧朔將軍、南濟陰太守。 When Prince Jingling Dan rebelled and held Guangling, Xiaozu served under Shen Qingzhi in the campaign against him and again distinguished himself in battle. He was then transferred to adjutant on the pacification staff of Prince Xiyang Zishang, made general who pacifies the north, and appointed administrator of Southern Jiyin.

竟陵王誕據廣陵為逆，勔隨道隆受沈慶之節度，事平，封金城縣五等侯。 When Prince Jingling Dan rebelled and held Guangling, Mian followed Daolong under Shen Qingzhi's command. When the rebellion was crushed he was enfeoffed as fifth-rank marquis of Jincheng.
