劉延皓，應州渾元人。 Liu Yanhao was a native of Hunyuan in Yingzhou.

延皓即劉後之弟也。 Yanhao was the younger brother of Empress Liu.

末帝鎮鳳翔，署延皓元隨都校，奏加檢校戶部尚書。 When the Last Emperor was posted at Fengxiang he appointed Yanhao commander of his original followers and memorialized to add acting minister of revenue.

延皓禦軍失政，為屯將張令昭所逐，出奔相州，尋詔停所任。 Yanhao governed the army badly; the garrison officer Zhang Lingzhao expelled him, he fled to Xiangzhou, and soon an edict stripped him of office.

及晉高祖入洛，延皓逃匿龍門廣化寺，數日，自經而死。 When the Gaozu of Jin entered Luoyang, Yanhao hid in Guanghua Temple at Longmen; after several days he hanged himself.

延皓始以後戚自藩邸出入左右，甚以溫厚見稱，故末帝嗣位之後，委居近密。 At first Yanhao, as a maternal relative from the princely household, came and went at the sovereign's side and was greatly praised for his mildness; therefore after the Last Emperor succeeded to the throne he was entrusted with intimate duties.

時執政以延皓失守，請舉舊章，末帝以劉後內政之故，止從罷免而已，由是清泰之政弊矣。 At the time the chief ministers, because Yanhao had lost his command, asked to apply the old regulations; the Last Emperor, because of Empress Liu's influence in the inner court, only went so far as dismissal—thereby the government of Qingtai was harmed.

清泰初，除宣徽北院使，俄以劉延皓守鄴，改副樞密使，累官至檢校太傅。 At the beginning of Qingtai he was made commissioner of the northern bureau of the Palace Domestic Service; soon, because Liu Yanhao was intendant at Ye, he was changed to deputy commissioner of military affairs and rose in succession to acting Grand Tutor.
