潞王欲用之，而楊思權之徒恥見其面，屢啟劉延朗，言「思同不可留，慮失士心。」 The prince meant to keep him, but Yang Siquan and the others could not bear to look on him. They told Liu Yanlang again and again, "Sitong must not stay or we will lose the army's loyalty."

又，潞王入長安時，尹暉盡得思同家財及諸妓女，故尤惡思同，與劉延朗亟言之。 When the prince entered Chang'an, Yin Hui had plundered Sitong's house and his singing girls, so he hated Sitong all the more and pressed Liu Yanlang to act.

潞王怒延朗，累日嗟惜之。 The prince raged at Yanlang and mourned the deed for days.

劉延朗，宋州虞城人也。 Liu Yanlang was a native of Yucheng in Songzhou.

末帝將圖起義，為捍禦之備，延朗計公私粟帛，以贍其急。 When the Last Emperor was planning to raise an uprising and made preparations for defense, Yanlang calculated public and private grain and cloth to supply the urgent need.

時房皓為樞密使，但高枕閑眠，啟奏除授，一歸延朗，由是得志。 At that time Fang Hao was commissioner of military affairs but only rested his head high and slept at leisure; memorials for appointments and dismissals all went to Yanlang, and thereby he got his way.

凡藩侯郡牧，自外入者，必先賂延朗，後議進貢，賂厚者先居內地，賂薄者晚出邊藩，故諸將屢有怨訕，末帝不能察之。 Whenever frontier lords and prefects came in from outside, they had first to bribe Yanlang and only afterward discuss advancing tribute; those who bribed heavily were first placed in inner territories, those who bribed lightly were sent out late to border commands—therefore the generals often had resentful complaints, which the Last Emperor could not perceive.

及晉高祖入洛，延朗將竄於南山，與從者數輩，過其私第，指而歎曰：「我有錢三十萬貫聚於此，不知為何人所得。」 When the Gaozu of Jin entered Luoyang, Yanlang was about to flee into the southern mountains; with several followers he passed his private residence, pointed at it, and sighed, "I have three hundred thousand strings of cash gathered here—I do not know who will obtain it."

劉延朗 Liu Yanlang

劉延朗，宋州虞城人也。 Liu Yanlang came from Yucheng in Songzhou.

初，廢帝起於鳳翔，與共事者五人：節度判官韓昭胤，掌書記李專美，牙將宋審虔，客將房暠，而延朗為孔目官。 When the Deposed Emperor first rose at Fengxiang, five men shared his cause: Han Zhaoyin as military aide, Li Zhuanmei as chief clerk, Song Shenqian as guard officer, Fang Hao as guest officer, and Yanlang as records clerk.

而延朗調率城中民財以給軍。 Yanlang levied the city’s wealth to feed the army.

帝既立，以昭胤為左諫議大夫、端明殿學士，專美為比部郎中、樞密院直學士，審虔為皇城使，暠為宣徽北院使，延朗為莊宅使。 Once enthroned, the emperor made Zhaoyin Left Remonstrator and Duanming academician; Zhuanmei director of the Bureau of Revenue and direct academician of Military Affairs; Shenqian commissioner of the Imperial City; Hao commissioner of the Northern Palace Secretariat; and Yanlang commissioner of the Imperial Estates.

久之，昭胤、暠為樞密使，延朗為副使，審虔為侍衛步軍都指揮使，而薛文遇亦為職方郎中、樞密院直學士。 In time Zhaoyin and Hao became chief councillors, Yanlang deputy, Shenqian commander of the palace foot guards, and Xue Wenyu director of Appointments and direct academician of Military Affairs.

由是審虔將兵，專美、文遇主謀議，而昭胤、暠及延朗掌機密。 Shenqian held the armies; Zhuanmei and Wenyu shaped policy; Zhaoyin, Hao, and Yanlang held the confidential seals.

延朗等多言敬瑭可留京師，昭胤、專美曰：「敬瑭與趙延壽皆尚唐公主，不可獨留。」 Yanlang’s faction urged keeping Jingtang in the capital. Zhaoyin and Zhuanmei objected: “Jingtang and Zhao Yanshou both married Tang princesses. You cannot hold one and not the other.”

帝與延朗等日夕謀議，而專美、文遇叠宿中興殿盧，召見訪問，常至夜分而罷。 The emperor plotted with Yanlang day and night. Zhuanmei and Wenyu slept in the Zhongxing Hall and were called in for counsel, often until midnight.

延朗等多言不可，而司天趙延義亦言天象失度，宜安靜以弭災，其事遂止。 Yanlang’s party objected; the Director of Astronomy Zhao Yanyi said the heavens were disturbed and the court should keep still. The transfer was dropped.

延朗等請帝親征，帝心憂懼，常惡言敬瑭事，每戒人曰：「爾無說石郎，令我心膽墮地！」 Yanlang urged a personal campaign. The emperor was sick with fear, could not bear talk of Jingtang, and warned his court: “Do not mention Lord Stone—I feel my heart fall through the floor!”
