婁昭，字菩薩，代郡平城人也，武明皇後之母弟也。 Lou Zhao, styled Pusa, was a native of Pingcheng in Dai Commandery and the maternal younger brother of Empress Lou Wuming.

昭貴，魏朝贈司徒。 When Lou Zhao rose high, the Wei court posthumously made his father Neigan minister of education.

齊受禪，追封太原王。 When Qi received the abdication, Lou Zhao's father Neigan was posthumously enfeoffed prince of Taiyuan.

昭方雅正直，有大度深謀，腰帶八尺，弓馬冠世。 Lou Zhao was dignified, upright, and of great bearing, with deep designs; his belt was eight feet long, and in archery and horsemanship he stood first in the age.

昭亦早識人，恒曲盡禮敬。 Lou Zhao also recognized men early and always showed them full courtesy and respect.

神武將出信都，昭贊成大策，卽以為中軍大都督。 When Gao Huan was about to march out from Xindu, Zhao endorsed the grand plan and was immediately made Grand Commander of the Central Army.

魏孝武將貳於神武，昭以疾辭還晉陽。 When Emperor Xiaowu of Wei was about to break with Gao Huan, Zhao pleaded illness and returned to Jinyang.

從神武入洛，兗州刺史樊子鵠反，以昭為東道大都督討之。 He followed Gao Huan into Luoyang. When Fan Zihu, Inspector of Yan Province, rebelled, Zhao was made Grand Commander of the Eastern Route and sent to suppress him.

子鵠既死，諸將勸昭盡捕誅其黨。 After Zihu was dead, the generals urged Zhao to arrest and execute all his followers.

昭曰：「此州無狀，橫被殘賊，其君是怨，其人何罪。」 Zhao said, "This province was helplessly overrun by violent rebels. Their lord is the one to blame. What crime have the people committed?"

昭好酒，晚得偏風，雖愈，猶不能處劇務，在州事委僚屬，昭舉其大綱而已。 Zhao loved wine and in later life suffered a stroke. Although he recovered, he still could not manage demanding business, so in the province he left affairs to his staff and handled only the broad outlines.

贈假黃鉞、太師、太尉，諡曰武。 Posthumously he was granted the acting yellow battle-axe and the titles Grand Preceptor and Grand Commandant; his posthumous name was Wu.
