自康熙五十三年土官祿鼎乾不法，欽差、督、撫會審畢節，以流官交質始出，益無忌憚。 Since Kangxi 53 (1714), when the native official Lu Dingqian broke the law, imperial commissioners and the provincial governors held a joint trial at Bijie; Lu emerged only after a regular official was sent in as hostage—and from then on he grew ever bolder.
