陸通字仲明，吳郡人也。 Lu Tong, courtesy name Zhongming, came from Wu commandery.

通少敦敏好學，有志節。 From youth Tong was earnest, quick-witted, and devoted to learning, and he possessed strong moral resolve.

通乃自拔東歸，從爾朱榮。 Tong made his own escape back east and entered Erzhu Rong's service.

文帝時在夏州，引為帳內督。 While Yuwen Tai was stationed at Xia Province, he took Tong on as a supervisor in his personal staff.

頃之，賀拔岳為侯莫陳悅所害，時有傳岳軍府已亡散者，文帝憂之，通以為不然。 Soon afterward Heba Yue was killed by Houmochen Yue; word spread that Yue's headquarters had already fallen apart, and Yuwen Tai grew anxious, but Tong did not believe it.

通雖處機密，愈自恭謹，文帝以此重之。 Though he held confidential matters, he grew only more respectful and cautious, and Yuwen Tai esteemed him all the more for it.

又從解洛陽圍。 Lu Tong again took part in lifting the siege of Luoyang.

通進曰：「青雀等旣以大軍不利，謂朝廷傾危，同惡相求，遂成反亂。 Tong stepped forward: "Qingque and his fellows saw our main force defeated and think the dynasty is failing; birds of a feather, they have turned to rebellion.
