希範卒,常數勸希廣以位奉其兄希萼,希廣不從。
After Xifan's death, Chang repeatedly urged Xiguang to yield the throne to his elder brother Ma Xie, but Xiguang refused.
希萼為朗州節度使,希範之卒,希萼自朗州來奔喪。

Xie's fleet moved upriver under the title "General Who Follows Heaven" and besieged Yuezhou. Prefect Wang Yun held the walls and refused battle. Xie shouted, "We once agreed to march together—why have you turned against me?"
希萼引兵去,下湘鄉,止長沙,屯水西。
Xie withdrew, moved through Xiangxiang, halted at Changsha, and camped on the west bank of the river.
希廣以為可,而可瓊已陰送款於希萼,遂沮其議。

Seeing him, Xie said with pity, "This fool could never have meant harm.
其下皆不對,遂縊死之。

乾祐三年,希萼自立。
In the third year of Qianyou (950), Xie declared himself ruler.
明年,漢隱帝崩,京師大亂,希萼遂臣於李景,景冊封希萼楚王,希萼悉以軍政事任其弟希崇。
The next year Emperor Yin of Han died and the capital plunged into chaos. Xie then submitted to Li Jing, who enfeoffed him as King of Chu. Xie entrusted all military and civil affairs to his younger brother Xichong.
希萼置酒端陽門,希崇辭以疾,威等縱惡馬十餘匹,以壯士執檛隨之,突入其府,劫庫兵,縛希萼,迎希崇以立。
Xie held a feast at Duanyang Gate. Xichong pleaded illness. Wei and the others turned loose more than ten vicious horses with armed men following, burst into the residence, seized the armory, bound Xie, and installed Xichong.
希崇遣彭師暠、廖偃囚希萼於衡山,師暠奉希萼為衡山王,臣於李景。
Xichong sent Peng Shigao and Liao Yan to imprison Xie at Hengshan. Shigao set Xie up as King of Hengshan under Li Jing.
封希萼楚王,居洪州;
He enfeoffed Xie as King of Chu at Hongzhou;
進逵少為靜江軍卒,事希萼為指揮使。
Jinkui had been a soldier in the Jingjiang army and served Xie as a commander.
