鴻曰：「聞過孟達許，適見王沖從南來，言往者達之去就，明公切齒，欲誅達妻子，賴先主不聽言。
Li Hong said, "I heard this while passing through Meng Da's area. I happened to meet Wang Chong coming from the south, and he said that when Da changed allegiance in the past, Your Excellency ground your teeth and wanted to execute Da's wife and children, but fortunately the First Sovereign would not listen to the proposal.
達曰：『諸葛亮見顧有本末，終不爾也。』
Meng Da had replied that Zhuge Liang’s goodwill had always been consistent and he would never do such a thing.
亮謂琬、詩曰：「還都當有書與子度相聞。」
Liang said to Wan and Shi, "When returning to the capital there ought to be a letter to exchange news with Zidu."
詩進曰：「孟達小子，昔事振威不忠，後又背叛先主，反覆之人，何足與書邪！」
Fei Shi said, "Meng Da is a petty man. He was disloyal when he formerly served the General Who Inspires Awe, and later he betrayed the First Sovereign as well. A man so changeable is not worth exchanging letters with!"
亮欲誘達以為外援，竟與達書曰：「往年南征，歲
Zhuge Liang wished to draw Meng Da in as an outside ally and ultimately wrote him a letter: "In former years, during the southern campaign, before the year
嗚呼孟子，斯實劉封侵陵足下，以傷先主待士之義。
Alas, Meng Da—it was Liu Feng’s bullying that wronged you and violated the late emperor’s duty to his men.
達得亮書，數相交通，辭欲叛魏。
Meng Da answered repeatedly and began plotting to revolt from Wei.
魏遣司馬宣王征之，即斬滅達。
Wei sent Sima Yi against him and had him killed at once.
亮亦以達無款誠之心，故不救助也。
Zhuge Liang did not send help because he judged Meng Da insincere.
