同治六年，殿魁戰歿永漋河，定奎方省母回裡，奔赴軍，誓殺賊復仇，遂代領兄舊部，轉戰河南、山東。 In 1867 Diankui was killed at the Yongzhang River. Dingkui had been home visiting his mother; he hurried back to camp, swore to kill rebels and avenge his brother, took over the old command, and fought on in Henan and Shandong.

九年，丁母憂。 In 1870 he went into mourning for his mother.
