鎰其公服白其母曰：「上疏理樅，樅必免死，鎰必坐貶。 Still in his official robes, Zhang Yi told his mother, "If I submit a memorial to clear Lu Cong, he will surely escape death, but I will surely be demoted in punishment.

若以私則鎰負於當官，貶則以太夫人為憂，敢問所安？」 If I act from private feeling, I fail in my duty as an official; if I accept demotion, I will cause you, my lady, great worry. May I ask where your peace lies?"

母曰：爾無累於道，吾所安也。」 His mother replied, "You will not be burdened in the Way—that is where I find my peace."

母憂居喪有聞，免喪，除司勛員外。 He became known for the propriety with which he observed mourning for his mother. When the mourning period ended, he was appointed vice director of the Bureau of Merits.
