至後周保定中，得古玉鬥於地中，以造尺律，其後牛弘以為不可，止用蘇綽鐵尺，至隋亦用之。 In the Baoding era of Later Zhou, an ancient jade bushel measure was unearthed and used to derive the foot-rule and pitch pipes; later Niu Hong rejected this method, and courts used only Su Chuo's iron foot-rule — a standard the Sui dynasty also adopted.

其後范鎮等論樂，複用李照所用太府尺、即周、隋所用鐵尺，牛弘等以謂近古合宜者也。 Later Fan Zhen and others debated music and revived Li Zhao's Grand Storehouse foot-rule — the same iron standard used in Zhou and Sui times — which Niu Hong and others had regarded as close to antiquity and therefore appropriate.
