長沙王晃屬選用吳興聞人邕爲州議曹，緒以資藉不當，執不許。 Prince Huang of Changsha pressed the selection office to appoint Wenren Yong of Wuxing as provincial deliberative clerk, but Xu insisted that his rank and background were unsuitable and refused.

晃遣書佐固請之，緒正色謂晃信曰：「此是身家州郷，殿下何得見逼！」 Huang sent a clerk to press the request. Xu faced Huang's messenger sternly and said, "This is my own home province and village. How can Your Highness force me in this?"
