薦山東布政使劉源灝、江寧布政使祁宿藻，皆持正有為，責成專任； He recommended Shandong treasurer Liu Yuanhao and Jiangning treasurer Qi Suzao—both upright and energetic—and gave each sole charge of relief;

在途觸暑染疫，力疾治事，與源灝、宿藻等覈定施賑章程，疏陳而不言病，至清江浦遽卒。 On the journey he fell ill in the heat but kept working; with Yuanhao, Suzao, and others he finalized relief rules and memorialized without mentioning his sickness, then died suddenly at Qingjiangpu.
