上獎普吉保勇往，累擢福建汀州鎮總兵。 The emperor praised Pu Jibao's bold advance and raised him by stages to garrison commander of Tingzhou in Fujian.

林爽文為亂，總督常青檄普吉保會剿，五十二年，率水師渡台灣，迭破賊鹿仔港、八卦山，上嘉其奮勉。 When Lin Shuangwen rebelled, Governor-General Chang Qing summoned Pu Jibao to the joint campaign; in Qianlong 52 he crossed to Taiwan at the head of the fleet, took Lugang and Baguashan in turn, and won the emperor's praise for his zeal.

明年，上念台灣初定，慮普吉保不能勝，命解任。 The next year, mindful that Taiwan had only just been settled and doubting Pu Jibao was equal to the post, the emperor ordered him removed.
