常青初視師，福州將軍恆瑞，水陸二提督任承恩、黃仕簡皆在行，戰無功。 When Chang Qing first took the field, Fuzhou general Hengrui and land and naval commanders Ren Chengen and Huang Shijian were all present yet won no victories.

承恩、仕簡以誤軍機坐斬，台灣平，赦出獄。 Chengen and Shijian had been condemned to death for military failure; after Taiwan was pacified they were pardoned and released.

仕簡至狼山鎮總兵，承恩亦至副將，恆瑞自有傳。 Shijian eventually became Langshan garrison commander and Chengen a vice-general; Hengrui has a separate biography.
