When Renxiao first succeeded, his ministers rebelled repeatedly; Ren Dejing distinguished himself in suppressing them and served as chief minister for more than twenty years. He secretly harbored ambitions against the state, executed imperial kinsmen and high officials on false charges, and grew so powerful that Renxiao could no longer restrain him.
