昭兄子叡。 Rui was Zhao's nephew, the son of his elder brother.

叡字佛仁，父拔，魏南部尚書。 Rui, courtesy name Furen, was the son of Ba, who had served in Wei as Minister of the Southern Section.

叡幼孤，被叔父昭所養。 Rui was orphaned young and raised by his uncle Zhao.

叡無他器干，以外戚貴幸，縱情財色。 Rui had no special ability, but as an imperial in-law he enjoyed rank and favor, and gave himself over to wealth and women.

武成至河陽，仍遣總偏師赴懸瓠。 When Emperor Wucheng reached Heyang, Rui was sent to command a detached force to Xuanhu.

叡在豫境留停百餘日，專行非法，詔免官，以王還第。 Rui stayed in Yu territory for more than a hundred days, acting lawlessly. An edict removed him from office, and he returned home retaining his princely title.
