中統元年,世祖即位,加璮江淮大都督。
In the first year of Zhongtong, when Shizu ascended the throne, Tan was made Grand Commander of the Jianghuai region.
癸卯,帝聞璮反,遂下詔暴其罪。
On the guimao day the emperor learned of the rebellion and issued an edict listing Tan's crimes.

書畢,世祖命讀之,其間有曰:「螻蟻之命,苟能存全,保為陛下取江南。」
When he finished writing, Shizu had it read aloud; it included, "If this wretch's life is spared, I guarantee to take Jiangnan for Your Majesty."
世祖曰:「汝今日猶欲緩頰於朕耶?」
Shizu said, "Do you still think you can talk your way out?"
