霸爲魯王，寵愛崇特，與和無殊。
Sun Ba was Prince of Lu, yet Sun Quan showered him with favor that matched the heir apparent in every outward respect.
頃之，和、霸不穆之聲聞於權耳，權禁斷往來，假以精學。
Word soon reached Sun Quan that the two brothers were estranged; he barred them from visiting each other, citing the need for diligent study.
謂陛下當副順遐邇所以歸德，勤命二宮賔延四遠，使異國聞聲，思爲臣妾。
You should answer the hopes that bind the realm to you: bid both princes receive guests from every quarter so that rival states hear of their virtue and wish to submit.
今旣未垂意於此，而發明詔，省奪備衞，抑絕賔客，使四方禮敬，不復得通，雖實陛下敦尚古義，欲令二宮專志於學，不復顧慮觀聽小宜，期於溫故博物而已，然非臣下傾企喁喁之至願也。
Now, before Your Majesty has shown any intent on this matter, you have instead issued a clear edict reducing and removing their guards, suppressing and cutting off guests, so that ritual respect from the four quarters can no longer get through. Though in truth Your Majesty honors ancient principle and wishes the two palaces to devote themselves solely to study, no longer attending to minor matters of sight and hearing, hoping only that they review the old and learn broadly, this is not the eager, upturned hope of your servants below.
聞達之日，聲論當興，將謂二宮有不順之愆，不審陛下何以解之？
When those rumors break surface, men will say both princes are disloyal—how will you answer them?
願陛下早發優詔，使二宮周旋禮命如初，則天清地晏，萬國幸甚矣。」
Issue a generous edict, I beg you, and let both princes receive guests and observe ceremony as before—then heaven and earth will be at peace and the realm will rejoice."
