太宗初，為鴻飛將軍，率眾五千，鎮大洛城。 At Taizong's accession he was General of Soaring Flight, commanding five thousand men at Daluo.

太宗西巡，古真與奚斤等率前軍討越勒部，[2]大破之，獲馬五萬匹，牛羊二十萬頭，掠二萬餘家西還。 On Taizong's western progress Guzhen and Xi Jin led the van against the Yuele tribe[2] and shattered them, taking fifty thousand horses, two hundred thousand cattle and sheep, and herding more than twenty thousand households west as booty.

古真弟太真，太宗初，為平南將軍、相州刺史。 Guzhen's younger brother Taizhen, when Taizong took power, was general who pacifies the south and inspector of Xiangzhou.

太宗初，為幽州刺史，加東統將軍，進爵為侯。 At Taizong's accession he was inspector of Youzhou, given the added rank general of eastern command, and raised to marquis.

太宗時，執事左右，為大官令。 Under Taizong he served at court and became Director of the Imperial Kitchens.

大檀問其故，眷曰：「受斤負罪天子，逃刑在此，不時執送，是以來取。」 Datan asked why he had come. Juan answered, "Shoujin offended the Son of Heaven and fled here from punishment. Since you did not seize him and send him back at once, I have come to take him."

太宗幸幽州，詔眷輔世祖居守。 When Taizong went to Youzhou, he ordered Juan to assist Shizu, who remained behind to guard the capital.
