金末，以孤童子事太宗，知讀書，有膽略，太宗器之。 At the end of Jin he served Taizong as a young orphan; he could read, showed courage and resource, and Taizong valued him.

拜中書令，太宗崩，太后稱制，惟中以一相負任天下。 He was appointed director of the Secretariat; when Taizong died and the empress dowager assumed regency, Weizhong bore the weight of the realm as sole chief minister.
